A legislative audit of Legacy Amendment spending correctly endorses nonpoliticians in shaping fund goals.

I elect people to spend my tax dollars, I didn't elect Shara, Leaf, Rall, and Kilgore. Nor did anyone elect Bob Lessard to get driven around to banquets for the sole purpose of creating false outrage. These guys are self-serving lackeys for DU, PF, and MDHA, solely interested in their own agendas and not what is best for Minnesota and its 5 million people. This is the same group that sent millions to Finland for a conservation easement only to have the same people turn around and screw the state on their new (lower) assessed taxable value. The Lessard-Sams Council is an abomination of democracy, and will eventually bring on the demise of the Legacy Amendment. Dennis, you're losing your grip on reality. Between you and the stadium folks, I think Minnesotan's tax dollars are in serious danger of misappropriation.

Good column Dennis.

Dennis: I agree with you!! These funds should be closely watched and not to be used otherwise. I voted for this tax (I now live in IA), but I would vote for it again. I love the outdoors and hunting, and this is one way we can save our natural resources. Please keep on eye on this as I hope to return to my home state of MN.

@lexluger Did you think Potlatch owning property that limits what they can do with it should be taxed at the same level as land with no easements? I know I won't be complaining when I take my grandkids grouse hunting on over 1 million public acres. I'm sure your $25 membership to RGS is going to go a long ways towards future habitat, clean water, etc. much more effectively than a tax that provides a good for everyone in the state. I'm thankful for Schara, Rall, and Kilgore for donating their time to choose worthy projects. Perhaps if you took the time to listen, read, or ask the committee why they choose projects you would see they aren't wielding an agenda. One look at funded LSOHC projects shows it would be hard to make that case.

The Legislature has too much money to spend already. The Legacy funds should be off the table for them.

lexlugerDec. 2, 1111:12 AM

wootieup7 - Will the LSOHC pay for the decrease in propery taxes to the County and State? We already have millions of public acres available that are ignored. Put the money into fixing what we have. Wait until Potlath logs or mines the land and tell me how great that boondoggle turns out.

I have worked on a # of citizen comittees before the Amendment and found them to be hard working and in the best interests of conservation. Mistakes will be made and people will disagree as in any human endeavor but much good work will be done. Now hit your favorite WMA for a last hunt for a pheasant!!

Right on! politicians have to be monitored closely when it comes to money matters! an example, the tobacco settlement money!
