Will Devils always have Minnesota's Parise?

He hopes to remain with the New Jersey Devils long-term, he said. The fact that he is playing on a one-year contract had more do with circumstances than calculation.

The day of the Draft, Zach was falling and I could not believe it, I was hoping so bad that Doug Risbrough would do the right thing and trade up to draft Parise. Even After Parise was I Devil early on, I still would have traded Marion Gaborik straight up for Parise. Big mistake, not doing more to get this kid early on, could have been the perfect player to build around.

Not sure I agree with NorthStar91 at all. While I like Parise, he's not worth six or seven mil at this stage. He looks like one of those guys that was hot young and just kind of burned out. He may turn it around, but his production over the past couple seasons is mediocre at best, and his six million dollar salary--or what he might get in free agency--could be better spent on a more productive young forward acquired via trade. Sad but true at this stage.

I think if the Wild have a shot at getting Parise here as a UFA without having to give NJ anything in return, they would be absolutely foolish not to take that shot. The Devils are nowhere right now. They are having serious financial issues and are already hamstrung with Kovalchuk's contract. The Wild are a team on the rise. And they play in Parise's hometown. I would definitely give ZP a five year deal at $35-$40 million. He was injured last season. The season before that he scored 82 pts and darn near won a Gold Medal for the USA almost single-handedly. The season before that he scored 94 pts. Parise would be an incredible addition to the Wild, especially with who they have coming up in the next few years. Picture this line taking the ice for the Wild on opening night of the 2013-14 season: Granlund-Parise-Zucker. 'Nuff said??

I really had to laugh. Doug Risebrough and doing the right thing in the same sentence. We can thank Doug for years of mediocrity, nothing more. And if Parise was added to the existing team, we would be a bonafide cup contender. Still not convinced we have the scoring in the lineup to make a long run, but the playoffs should be in our future at the end of the year regardless.

Playing in the eastern conf I haven't seen Zach play very often, so other than stats I have little to evaluate his play. I'm unsure if his talent level is that high or if there's some homerism involved. I'd be a little concerned with overpaying for the Hometown kid, I still become nauseous thinking Mark Parrish is still collecting a paycheck.

Parise would be nice, but I agree with Washburn's concern on overpaying for the hometown kid. He was hurt last year and he is having his worst season so far. All I know is we have people constantly complaining about our current captain as being overpaid, yet he's is a +6 on team that is only +5 as a team in goal differential. His numbers are better than Parise's and this while playing with a winger that isn't scoring on one side and a cast of characters on the other side. If we can get him for a reasonable price, get him. Don't overpay...see the Twins. GO WILD!

I don't think the Wild will overpay for the hometown kid - there's a lot of young talent coming up through the pipeline, but I think they'll make a market offer and see if Parise wants to come home. He'd be a gem in Yeo's system, as he's a defensively responsible playmaking forward. I don't buy the idea that he's burned out or peaked early - he was hurt last year, and he's having a tough go of it on a bad team in a new system so far this year.

I think Parise would be a great fit - but only in free agency. I don't want to trade for him, and that's what the Devils will try if they don't extend him. Sometimes you have to overpay for a player. I'd rather overpay for him over, say Alex Semin, because you know he'll give 100% every night.

I haven't been a hockey fan since the North Stars moved (yes, that long). Why, because it is hard to keep track of players. Wouldn't it be nice if a player such as Parise come here? At least I would know one of the players. Just think of the draw of fans that would come and see him play. With a name of "Parise", maybe I would even watch him. J.P. Parise is a name that I will always remember.

Past his prime. Maybe he can catch on in Fargo.
