Mbakwe's season, and likely Gophers career, over after injury

The All-Big Ten forward won't play again this season, and it's likely that his Gophers career is over as well.

Sad to hear...maybe he can get a medical red shirt if he is interested in doing that. On the other hand, playing without him will be a good test for Tubby's recruits, that is, to see how good they are. I suspect that Big Ten competition will show that they are not very good.

Best of luck in your recovery, Trevor. Stay out of trouble and keep playing with the same passion and intensity you have shown as a Gopher and the future is yours.

Like I said before....over before we got started. Sounds like his mind is sound through all of this. Does he get a medical red shirt? I'd like to see him play in the barn one more season before going pro.

Too bad. Without him, they'll be well under .500 this season. How many more years before they are competitive again?

Doubt that he will get a redshirt year - the injury meets 2 of the 3 critria - it is serious and it is less than 1/2 of the season - but he may have played in 20% of the games (total) - I don't have a schedule in front of me to see if they have played more than 20% of their schedule. Since they play 28-30 games - that would mean 5 or 6 games - and I think they're past that. It's too bad - sad to see his college career end this way.

How can this keep happening to us MN fans ? Twins, Vikings , Gophers, it never seems to stop ! Really feel bad for this kid, he is the heart of this team. Maybe, just maybe Ralph will wake up and contribute, if his ankle lets him........

@dorkeemn- i believe they have 31 games on the schedule, not counting big 10 tourny play...and have played 6, so that might fall under 20%

@gilbe452 - I hope you're right and that he decides to take it if he can...

What a total bummer. I wish him the best in his recovery. I was hoping to have a MN team that would at least be competitive this winter.... Oh, well, there is always the Timberpuppies..
