Other than seeing Peterson get more yardage for the year and maybe getting another TD run I can't see any benefit at all in playing him. Put Gerhart out there and see what he can do. No one can run the ball like Peterson but I would like to see if the Vikes can use Gerhart a little more in the passing game. If Ponder could get the ball to Peterson in the passing game then I'm sure he could do the same with Gerhart. Even Chester Taylor looked like a good all round back with the Vikes when compared to Peterson. I don't know what the Vikes could get for Peterson in a trade but they would be ahead by just having Harvin with his all round skills in the backfield with Gerhart as the backup. Peterson's skills should be limited to the red zone. Keep him fresh for the red zone. He is one-dimensional.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sid. Thanks for your many years of contributions to the sports scene in Minnesota. The sports section would not be the same without you.

its too bad that peterson is a great player wasting away on such a bad team. i think the twins front office and the vikings front office people are related beacause they both dont know what they are doing.

I can't think of a good reason to play Peterson this week and risk additional injury. This team is not in contention for the play-offs. In fact, the more they lose from here on out, the better draft pick they will have next spring. Of course with the Viking brain trust, a high draft pick means nothing except delayed failure.

With baby joe there would be absolutely no speculation on whether or not he would be playing. I'm thinking the 60 day DL.

I played competitive football for ten years. In my experience, if you play on a foot or ankle injury, you'll have that injury for the entire season. I have done that. It is possible to still perform at a high level, but it is a stupid use of a valuable resource on a team that is not going to the playoffs. Also, playing on an injury isn't risk free--you can make it far worse and even cause permanent damage.

As for Adrian's future, the Vikings need to decide at what level Adrian will be capable of playing at the point the Vikings have rebuilt their team. How fast can this team be honestly rebuilt? With that in mind, I would say that if the Vikings can quietly seek out or are offered something like a "Herschel Walker" type deal for Adrian, they should take it in a heartbeat.
