Team really catching on to this losing thing -- 2-14, here they come?

The Vikings now have a realistic chance of landing the second pick in the 2012 NFL draft. That should be their goal. The way they played for most of Sunday’s game, they should be up to the task.

Take Justin Blackmon over Matt Kalil. The Vikings can find worthy O-linemen via the free agent market. They need a dynamic playmaker like Blackmon who can present a vertical threat and free much needed space for Peterson, Harvin, and Shianco. Drafting an offensive lineman with their first pick won't stop opposing defenses from stacking 9 in the box.

Defensively, there's not one d-back that should be on an NFL roster, the linebackers are horrible(EJ has lost a step,Greenway gets dragged 5 yards after contact, and Erin is special teams at best). The d-line is average with good depth. Offensively Hutchinson, Harvin, Peterson, Ponder, and a couple tight ends are keepers, but that means they are 4 linemen and two wide receivers short of a full deck. They need more than a couple draft picks, but then again, Wilf will sell this team first week in January and the NFL in Minnesota will be history....so who cares???

I agree! You forgot one more thing, a new stadium!

Looking at the schedule, I predict they may win two more ... They might beat Denver in a close one at home and the Bears third team (chicago resting it's starters for the playoffs)...

Souhan nailed it with this article. I don't always agree with Souhan but I will say this, he and Reusee are the only sports journalists that aren't afraid to tell it like it is. There is not as much talent on this team as the Vikes themselves think, coaching is very very poor and it has been Speilman, Studwell and Brzysinki that have got this team to this point. I wouldn't trust the "vikings brain thrust" with this next draft anymore than I would B. Madoff with my money. Don't forget, Speilman was most responsible for setting the Dolphins back 10 years when he ran that team.

OT in 1st round, Safety in 2nd round. If we still suck next year then we can draft a WR in 1st round.

Great column, great points. Kalil is the light at the end of this tunnel and losses like today's are the way to get there. Ponder learned some things, Peterson gets a rest and hopefully Frazier started planning for 2012.

That the Vikings have fallen very far in a fast amount of time gives one hope that the rise from this free fall may be almost as swift as the descent. The only real mystery remaining this year is whether the players are going to quit on Leslie Frazier and if they don't quit but continue to lose, whether that's going to matter in Frazier's coaching future, if he has one. If the Vikings let him go, his successor will be one of three head coaches drawing a salary from the Vikings in 2012. The person responsible for this mess is Chris Spielman. He's supposed to manage, and manage well. That's not happening and it isn't likely to happen. Since the infamous, 12-men-in-the-huddle time out near the end of regulation time in the 2009 NFC Championship game, the Vikings have gone 8-19. Would any other NFL football organization hire the man who has managed that?

Kalil first rd. defense 2nd and 3rd rds, free agency could get them vincent jackson who would open things up for Peterson and Harvin. Shiancoe will be gone as will many of the defensive "starters". EJ has been a warrior but injuries have taken their toll, Erin H. is not a starter, Greenway needs to step up to the plate, not a defensive back worth keeping on the team. Another Pat Williams in the middle would certainly help.
