If Jamey Carroll is the new Punto, I'm fine with the signing. If Jamey Carroll is the new Twins shortstop, they're fooling themselves. "38 years old" and "shortstop" are not a good combination. All in all my reaction to this signing is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Since the Strib reporters are asleep, this from mlb trade rumors: "The Twins have signed Jamey Carroll to a two-year deal to be their everyday shortstop. The team announced the deal today. Carroll's contract will guarantee him $6.75MM and includes a $2MM mutual option for 2014. The option vests if Carroll makes 401 plate appearances in 2013, though he can choose to turn it down."

This is why the NBA is in a lockout. Bench players making this type of money. Were gonna be loaded with over payed middle infelders that can't hit better then .250. Should have just kept O-Dog and JJ is it was gonna cost this much. You can't win a Championship with this type of personal starting at short.

loudog2k57---playing in 140+ games would hardly make him a bench player. He's a career .278 hitter which is better than anything we have right now. Also, the average salary for a MLB player about $3.3 mil so I wouldn't call this contract overpayment.

Okay they got the utility guy. But sometime before I croak I'd like to again see a Twin's player on the level of a Kirby Puckett/Harmon Killebrew/Jack Morris - and yes I know I'm talking crazy - Mickey Mantle. I don't think they'll find him in Japan.

Punto has a world series ring! so I guess the jokes on us. Carroll for 6.75 mil guaranteed. you're kidding right? add another 3 mil on that and we'd have Robinson Cano...

37 years-old! Why should I get excited about this Twins move? Minnesota teams have had enough of over-the-hill players coming in. Let's get some young, fresh talent!

This is a good signing. No need for the bickering. He hit .290 last year, not .250. His OBP was .350 last year, and we need someone at the top of the order who can get on base. What'd you want to see, Nishi? Now Nishi can play if he can figure it out, and we have a solid bat there for relatively cheap if he can't.
