Zidlicky takes big hit to head, leaving Wild thin on blue line

The defenseman got his 'bell rung,' and if it's a concussion, it'll be the third time in the past five games that a Wild player has suffered such an injury.

I don't like to see anyone get hurt, but Zids getting his bell rung was probably the reason the Wild didn't give up another goal after the 1st period. He looked terrible before he got hurt, and he's easily been our WORST d-man since Zanon went down. All of the young guys have been playing way better.

"...if it's a concussion." OK, either sports are just too vicious for a human being these days, or we're over-diagnosing this concussion stuff. I know, I know, I know, never mess with a guy's head. But for decades players in hockey and baseball have toughed out "getting their bells rung" and lived long and healthy lives. Now you slide into second base wearing a Twins uniform and get bumped on the head as the opposing player turns a double play and your career is over. Head stuff? Sure, HEAD GAMES! I mean, Latendresse didn't even KNOW he had a concussion. It's lame. Get rid of the hits to the head AND get rid of the over-diagnosing.

Did the cheer in the Wild locker room come after it was announced Zidlicky would be out?

The Wild sent Wellman down and told him to DOMINATE, maybe Mikko could use a stint in Houston. Wellman deserves a chance solely on his speed, size is starting to get over-rated, look at Cullen, Spurgeon and a host of players around the league.

Lats was the most brutal of hits. Face first into the boards and cracked has helmet. I was surprised he even played the next game.

Three words I hate. Zidlicky! Turnover! Goal! In that order. Come on Zids! I hate to see a guy get hurt, but did the team just get better when he took that hit to the noggin?

I agree with bobo72. I hate to see anyone get hurt, however this will be the Wild's chance to see how much better they can be without Zids. If that is not the case, those of us who see Zids as a defensive liability can let up on our comments re same. I like the comment re Mikko going to Houston to get his game going. Won't happen, but nice thought. Good luck to Wellman and the Wild!!!!!

Mr. Yeo....We have the defensive talent already. If we can trade Zid while he has value in the nhl and take on another scorring threat, We can get to the cup.

Zids was sleep walking on the ice before he got hit. I believe that is one of the reasons he got hit so hard; he was totally unfocused which affected his reaction time which allowed him to get crushed.

I saw that hit Zidlicky took, and it would be a miracle if he DIDN'T have a concussion after that. Zids went down very hard, face first, right into the ice... and he didn't move until after the trainer got to him. It looked to me like he was knocked unconscious after hitting the ice. Regardless of all the snarky comments people like to make about everything these days, the truth is that athletes are still human beings, and failure to properly treat their injuries could leave them disabled for the rest of their lives.
