I find a whole teaspoon per pot to be way too much. I use a rounded 1/4 teaspoon (and a dash of baking soda to buffer the solution) in 12 oz of water. Heat the glass in the microwave. Pour 6 oz each through each side into the sink. Exhale gently to clear the passageways and it feels GREAT! ................................................................................ Honestly, I don't get how someone can make a mess. The first couple times takes some getting used to, but seeing a video clip makes it pretty clear and straightforward. ................................................................................ Before bedtime in the dry season makes sleeping more comfortable for me.

I love my neti pot! I use it whenever I feel a sinus infection coming and I'm better much quicker. One tip to keep your nasal passages feeling better after a use: rub a little sesame seed oil inside your nostril and breath deeply through your nose. I'm not sure how you could make a mess either... just use it over a sink.

I haven't yet tried neti pot, but I might. I do use saline nasal spray as I don't use decongestants. It helps that I no longer work in a mold saturated building.
