So much for the Republican less spending myth.

orpheus90Nov. 14, 11 2:27 AM

From the article: Homeland Security officials didn't ask for the legislation ... Which tells us everything we need to know and places cynical republican motives directly in the cross hairs of suspicion. Clearly the republicans' "veiled" agenda has nothing to do with security and everything to do with debasing local environmental protections. This sort of forked deceit in republican legislation initiatives is getting both routine and tiresome.

I hope you people understand that the northern border is more than minniesota and north dakota. illegal activity is occuring in the western and easter parts of the northern border. To look at just this small middle section is not the complete picture. (as most strib article are written). And @falcon1674, protecting our country is a somewhat important task is it not?

DacotaNov. 14, 11 7:17 AM

falcon1674 ... it sounds like you haven't the slightest clue at to just how many billions upon billions of dollars illegals are costing this country (which is you and me). I'd much prefer spending whatever is necessary to round 'em up, throw them out and keep them out. And I agree with mikey411 too. Just because some of our military is returning, doesn't mean they're all going to leave the service. Many of them are career military who are being paid regardless of what they do. I also say put them on our southern border and have them shoot anyone trying to enter our country illegally. It only takes one terrorist (who may have entered illegally from Mexico) to take the lives of hundreds if not thousands of U.S. citizens lives. Case closed.

"It only takes one terrorist (who may have entered illegally from Mexico) to take the lives of hundreds if not thousands of U.S. citizens lives.".....And none of them have come through the BWCAW. If they want to patrol let them do so on the roads outside the wilderness. We have enough trouble with those thugs up here already, keep the wilderness wild.

It sounds like another republican "bridge to nowhere scam,"' waste millions of dollars setting up a useless program then complain about wasteful spending in government, and promise to solve the problem.

Jakein08Nov. 14, 11 8:24 AM

Typical GOP legislation with no regard of the environment.

ephrakerNov. 14, 11 8:39 AM

So remember the idea of lower spending and less government? Yeah the one which has been proposed by every Republican crony since the B movie star Hollywood elitist president they elected. What ever happened to that? This seems to contradict everything the Republicans say. Frankly I'm shocked, shocked I say.

tea baggers and new-cons talk a good game but rarely play. Make us safer from the Canadians while ignoring the real threats (port security, home grown radicalization, etc..).

Let's have more Republican police state measures all over everywhere. The number of agents were increased from 28 in 1992 to 213 last year. The potential for a problem was recognized and measures have been taken. The main proponents of the bill come from Utah and Arizona. While I respect the issues that confront them frankly Minnesota doesn't need more war ultra-conservative Republican laws here in Minnesota.
