Ramsey County commissioners on Thursday announced a tentative deal to buy the proposed Vikings stadium site in Arden Hills from the federal government, giving that plan a much-needed boost -- if the money can be found to do it.

I hope there is an EPA Environmental Impact escape clause for unexpected Depleted Uranium & other radiological munitions found on the property.

This is a bummer being I will never attend a professional sporting event in the burbs. I'm a strong believer in supporting the central cities so, I don't want to be a hypocrite by spending my money in some suburb, which wouldn't even exist if it weren't for St. Paul and Minneapolis. I also think it's funny how Twin Cities officials measure the TC metro against "peer" metros like Denver and Seattle. Our officials like to talk about how they are trying to implement smart growth. Well, our officials are about to allow a stadium to be built in a suburb surrounded by a sea of parking lots and one that won't be accessible by light rail or commuter lines, bike paths, and even with walking distance. I think it's time we stop wishing we were like Denver, Seattle, Portland, etc... and start realizing that our metro is more like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc... There is no stopping the sprawl.

Seems the Gove is doing his best to make sure the site will not be used... Zigy should buy the land then spend the rest of the 407 mill to build and Open Air Stadium and reap all the rewards of it. Or just tell the State good bye and Hello LA!

Ah the old "uncertainty" concern rears its ugly head once again. I'm really glad that someone is finally--once and for all--taking care of that dreaded "uncertainty" that is so good at keeping the economy down.

this is the best location for the stadium. all everybody is waiting on is the legislature as usual. this is really getting sickening. Kurt Zellers is gaining ground real quick on John Marty as the most hated politician in the history of our great state. enough talking, we deserve action. pull the trigger already and get this thing done!

What about the large parcel of land the state owns on the northwest end of the proposed location? No mention of that potential revenue source yet from what I have been reading.

Wilf needs to just invest and build the thing on his own. Take all the risk, keep all the reward. The state cannot afford these kinds of investments at the moment. Our focus needs to be incentives to move/grow manufacturing/research jobs to the state, which bring money into the state, whereas football simply increases the velocity of money inside the state and moves it from people's pockets to the Vikes and back to the subcontractors, employees and players, stakeholders and owners; which are then expected to spend some of it in-state.

Spending money we don't have on things we don't need. Smart move, Commissioners.

Whether or not the stadium is built, this is a good move for the state. It cleans up a superfund site on the federal nickel, not just Minnesota's, and brings some land into play that can generate some serious economic development. I hope it pushes the stadium issue along becase the Vikings are a Minnesota tradition that should be saved, the team generates jobs and augments the quality of life here. Regardless, even if the stadium isn't built at this location, acquiring, cleaning up, and developing this site is a win-win for Minnesota.
