You get what you pay for. Go to college and you are more likely to find a job with better benefits such as paid maternity leave. You cant expect that from a job that requires minimal education. If we all got the same benefits, etc, what would be the point of going to college?

I agree with education being the key. College isn't for everyone but trade schools are a good alternative to college. You are allowed leave whether you use vacation of medical. I don't think I ever worked for a company that gave paid leave for having a kid. You had to use vacation or go unpaid. Most people having kids bank up their vacation and medical leave. However, if you blow through it all, there is nothing to use for maternity leave.

It seems to me that it's in a companies benefit to offer some sort of paid leave--even if it's only 60% pay. I know that I'm not at full mental or physical capacity when leaving the hospital after giving birth. I would be afraid of errors or accidents being caused by returning to work too soon.
