Patrick Reusse: Twins need building blocks over Cuddyer

He has been a major contributor to the franchise, but the time is right to let him, and others, walk.

Agreed. Last season was the chance for Cuddyer-Nathan-Kubel-Capps-Moreau-Mauer to meet glory. Opportunity missed. Time to turn the page.

Spend the money on pitching, power hitters are useless at target field. The team has to completly redisign to NL style ball.. Linedrive hitters and speed, doesn;t look like much can be done about the pitching though.

We'll keep saying it again and again until someone in the Twins' front office listens: free agent priorities are power, preferably righthanded, on-base percentage at the top of the lineup, and then starting pitching. As Reusse notes there's a dearth of top of the line pitching, so let's see some big bats. As for Cuddyer, on an injury riddled team I don't mind seeing a guy who can play four positions and who wants to be in the lineup every day. I have no problem with him being re-signed by the Twins.

Michael Cuddyer is the heart and soul of the Twins, and more than likely has a good number of productive years ahead. Re-signing #5 should absolutely be priority #1!

Seriously, why get rid of the only all star, right handed hitter with power, can play multible positions, is great in the clubhouse, and is willing to play when hurt or when he has the sniffles. Trade cry baby maurer if you want to rebuild this team

Cuddy is a great guy and a solid major leaguer, perfect for the Phillies who will ask him to contribute not be the focal point of the line-up. He regretfully at 33 y.o. and $10 million isn't going to push the Twins back to the top, because he's a contributor not a star. Face facts, unless the M & M boys turn back the clock to 06/09, this team will indeed need to re-tool. Don't be surprised if it's: Span CF, Casilla 2B, Mauer C, Morneau (Optimistic 1B), Valencia 3B, Parm (DH), Benson RF, Revere (LF) and Dozier/Nishi (SS). This may be good enough for 75 to 85 wins.

I don't know, I saw Joe Benson play a AA game last year. He kind of seemed like one of those all or none guys (HR, 2B, 2 ugly K's on three pitches each). Not sure if he's ready to be an everyday MLB OF.

hugelats: I don't know, I saw Joe Benson play a AA game last year BALLFOUR: Why would we even be talking about what he did in AA last year? We saw him for 70 or so big-league PAs. There's no "not sure" about it. He's not ready.

I understand about Cuddy, but I would sure hate to see him go. The real issue is the M&M boys. The Twins mortgaged their future and hooked their wagon to two overly delicate horses. Until these guys either play to their potential or leave, we are screwed. $38m is too much for half a season.

I love Cuddyer. Let him go to a GOOD team. He's earned it.
