Nick Bjugstad's power-play goal and Kent Patterson's stalwart goalie play led the Gophers to a shutout over the Sioux that was as hard-fought as anticipated.

I'm waiting to hear the excuses... Refs were calling too many penalties and helped the Gophs win, Gophs aren't playing tough enough competition so they weren't as tired as the Sue, the Sue outplayed the Gophs but just had some bad bounces, the Sue had jet-lag, 10 players on the Sue had influenza, Hextal forgot his lucky tie, the Sue were focused on lawsuits and whether the Gophs will the play themn in the future because the call themselves the Sue.

Well done gophs. Follow it up tomorrow with another good effort.

If there's anything good to come of the Goph's going to the BIG10 it will be leaving the WCHA ref's behind. Called a horrible game both ways in my opinion. I'll make sure to bring my broom tomorrow night. Go GOPHERS!!!!!

Sioux fan here. The Gophers are a very good team. They are solid on defense, play with grit (which has been missing in that program for years) matched UND's physical play, and could do what UND can't do this year, finish. Looks like Minnesota may be a top team this year. The Sioux, I'm guessing, will be a middle of the pack team. Let's hope for a good game Saturday!

I'll miss the WCHA terribly but I think the Big 10 will help promote hockey overall. Sue fans say they Gophs are trying to hide from the Sue in the Big 10 but it comes down to money and what will promote college hockey and USA hockey. Think about it, how often is college hockey televised on national TV and for that matter, NHL hockey? I'm hoping that 10 to 15 years from now this will be a positive to college hockey and that we might be able to catch some regular season college hockey games on ESPN in the future.

ND played its best game of the year tonight and the Gophs shut them down. ND looked good in the 1st but the gophs owned the puck in the second and third. Bjugstad did what a blue chipper does. Rau is the real deal. Patterson was awesome. The goph defense held down ND's offense. Special teams were competitive on both sides but the edge goes to Bjustad and the gophs. Fantastic game, except for the Ambroz penalties, with it being 2pts better for the gophs. Looking forward to the rematch. That's what I love about college hockey....you get another chance but painful weekend already for ND. Enjoy your win!
