"Teachers are the experts"? Really? "Those who can do, those who can't teach."

WITH A 49% graduation rate, the district is a failure. Star-Trib reported earlier this year that the average salary for Mpls teachers is $65,000, 9 months work, and full benefits. Compensation so high the Union won't even talk about it for fear of backlash. This also is good evidence that throwing more money at the teachers will do nothing for the unfortunate kids that have to go there.

And how many kids has this coalition taught successfully? Probably zero, but yet they seem to have the magic answers. Education has been going on for thousands of years, and if there was an easy solution, it would have been in place by now. Students and parents that want a good education, can get it in just about any school with sufficient effort. Those that don't, or are unwilling to make the effort to become educated, will not - no matter what the system is or what quality the teacher is. It's that simple. What part of this can these scholars not understand?

The current system is an abject failure. Teachers need to be held accountable for results.

It's about time someone makes some demands on the union. If people REALLY knew the complete pay, bennies and pension plan there would be rioting in the streets.

Teachers are held accountable all of the time. A "Bad" teacher is observed, mentored, and then counseled out, if necessary. Just because everyone was a student once does not make them experts. I'm willing to bet that many of those who complain about teachers have to google the following words for comprehension: pedagogy, summative vs. formative assessment, DBQ, SOEI, etc. And for the ill-informed always using the "9-months work for $65k" and how easy the job must be, I hope you realize how much work is done in the "down" time to make it look so easy. Instead of demonizing educators, use your resources to support the families of students not ready for success.
