Of the species known as the professional athlete, the genus "basketball player" is by far the most ignorant, yet filled with an equal amount of hubris. Take Derek Fisher, please.

NHL...please stop giving advice to the NBA "playaz". I, for one, could care less if they disappear forever.

Jerry... how did we sign a veteran coach that wanted to take the year off before coming back in 2012?? Well, I'm guessing when he went to Mankato to meet with Glen he was told he was going to get the time off he wanted and coach the T'Wolves. A win-win for Adelman and the team. I'm sure Glen told him that he didn't think he would be coaching before the 1st of the year. He would get time to spend with his family through Christmas and be the T'Wolves sometime late January. Easy to see with 20/20 hindsight.

Adelman knew very well he was going to get paid for just sitting home in Portland for part or all of a season. That probably did factor into him deciding to take the job. And Glen Taylor knew better than anyone how much the upcoming season is in jeopardy when Adelman went down to Mankato in September.

Losing $2B in salaries for the year to make an additional $100M/year? Somebody should give the NBA players a math lesson.

In the entertainment industry, pro sports, the public buys into the finished product and pays the bills. So we have millionaire players arguing with billionaire owners over what is really our money. If you win the Powerball, you in essence are now paid like a pro athlete. These guys are so full of themselves, take what your employer is offering, it is the best employment deal offered on the planet. Really, how much $$ are you, Mr./Mrs Public making a year? I hope the whole thing sinks for a few years.....and they get a taste of our lifestyle!!

ARRey sez: There remain fundamental differences between hockey and basketball. One is mainly a team sport, where the other is more of an individual sport. Team players care more about each other, while individuals are out for themselves. Throw a sports agent and a union into the mix, there's bound to be trouble.
