Lots of mid-century buildings east of 55. It would be fascinating to know what they were all used for, especially the large complex. Take a peek on google maps... http://g.co/maps/peqys

Wonderful. Maybe there will be reenactments of leaf lickers chained to and hanging from the trees.

If you look over the plans, most of the trees will go away :-(

Back in the early 00s, a couple of real estate developers looked into building corporate office centers on that site. Gov't was not a willing seller. That's really what should go there - expanding the tax base rather than taking property off the tax roles.

Tom, you should have done better job research this Coldwater. It wouldn't have taken much. This is an incredible historial gem to both immigrant MN and Native Americans. It is much more than "the area is spiritually significant". You failed to mention the various Native Nations gathered here and collected the water from the spring for sacred ceremonies, often traveling great distances. Did you that the spring allowed fur traders, and settlers to live at Coldwater and they co-existed with the Native Americans. Dred Scott lived at Coldwater and it was there he started his fight as a freeman since he now lived in a Free land. When I first found out about the history of Coldwater I was very surprised that the STate of MN did not protect and take care of this area long ago. Thank goodness Friends of Coldwater and the Dakotas fought to save this area. The spring is the last fresh water spring in the city, as others were destroyed by developers. If the rivers become too polluted to drink, it is the spring that will give us life.
