The author needs to do further research on Dia de los Muertos. When the Spaniards conquered Mexico, they unsuccessfully tried to eradicate this ritual because to them it seemed to mock death. The natives viewed death as a continuation of life, and they did not see it as something fearful. The Spaniards succeeded in making some changes to the ritual, for example, originally a spring time celebration, it was moved so it coincided with All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day--Nov. 1 and 2 to make it more “Catholic”.

Thumbs down me all you want. While it is a holiday in Mexico, it is not given the fan fair and major celebratory status it is given here. And that's a fact. It has been embraced now and is a tourism hook there, but it is not one of the 'top ten' celebrations as they make it out to be here. Ask anyone from Mexico.

glamorousviv: yes, they do celebrate this holiday in Mexico. Government offices are closed in Mexico in celebration.

pacificocean - They observe it. They don't 'celebrate' it. Like Columbus Day in the USA. Get it?

A beautiful and real celebration "Dia De Muertos" en Mexico. Nice! but November 1st is for remembering children who have died without sin, and Nov 2nd for adults.
