Underneath that calm exterior is an intense competitor. Yes, Christian Ponder is breathing life back into the Vikings.

Nice game by Ponder. It's too bad it took Frazier and Co. 6 games to get him in there. It was obvious to fans by the 3rd and 4th game that McNabb couldn't get it done. Secondary still looked pretty bad. Longwell missed FG and lack of power on kickoffs is disappointing as well.

"Donovan McNabb continues to say he should still be the Vikings' starting quarterback. He must be stuck in obstructed-view seating on the bench." Well said. All the more need be said is the McNabb has a wonderful career in comedy awaiting him when he leaves the game.

Wow, Jim does know how to write something positive, too bad the radio show had nothing good to say and according to Souhan Newton was going to be the stud today. Hope you don't run a betting service, cause you would loose people some hard earned money

Frazier is no idiot. If he wasn't starting Ponder before last week, there's a reason for it. The last thing you want to do with a rookie QB is put him in before he's ready. The NFL is littered with QBs who had exceptional talent but played too soon and never really recovered from doing poorly. This was a brand new offense being installed by a new offensive coordinator, and without the benefit of OTAs and minicamps due to the lockout, Ponder was not set up well for success. The preseason was Ponder's OTAs and minicamps. The first few games of the regular season were his preseason. Now he's ready, and it shows. Is he the type that can take over a game and dominate? Time will tell...but for a few years it likely won't be necessary when AD is your running back. Ponder's done well early and has managed the game well and come up huge when he's needed to. That's because he was ready to play. Frazier and his staff have done a nice job bringing Ponder along, and it shows with how well Ponder has done early on. I give the staff credit for it, Ponder as well.

in 1977, toward he end of the season, the vikes were playing the 49ers at the met. Down 24-7 they put in Tommy Krameraround the start of the 4th quarter. He threw 3 td's, the last one 69 yds to Sammy White. The Vikes won it 28-27. The Strib headline read something like, the future is now, when talking about Tommy Kramer. The strib should repeat the headline tomorrow. With Ponder, the future is now.

YOur point regarding the coaching staff being wise about brining Ponder along slowly is completely without merit. There is no way to prove or disprove either way. However the clear cut bottom line you miss in your analysis is that Ponder was ready before he got put in for mop up duty. You see, the mistake the coaching staff made was not inserting Ponder into games beginning in week 4. That was when he should have been playing in the second half. That would have been the smartest, most prudent way to both bring him along properly, and win at least two more games. This team would very easily have been 4-4 had that strategy been employed. I stated at the beginning of the season that this kid is ready now. He is the smartest quarterback in this league. Period. There is to be no congratulations on a coaching decision which cost this team a shot at the playoffs. They handled it very poorly;

Ponder is the first quarterback since Tommy Kramer that can actually read a defense. It has been so painful watching all of the intervening QB's, especially Jackson and Culpepper, stare down their primary receiver, even when the defense wasn't allowing that particular pass. It will be interesting to watch him develop, but I think he may actually be a franchise quarterback.

Didn't Robert Smith say "Act in the endzone like you've been there before and expect to be there soon again." Same goes for how you act after a win. Ponder shows signs that he could win the Vikings a lot of games.

Kid looked good. More importantly he makes the offense look much better and the players around him much better and that is a very good start.

Make me eat my words CP. Now, hopefully, Frazier will do the same.
