Patrick Reusse: Mankato West QB no longer seeing red

  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune
  • Updated: October 30, 2011 - 7:16 AM

As he showed again in the section semis, Philip Nelson looks like a Big Ten quarterback -- but the Big Ten school he'll play for is Minnesota.

I hope Reusse is more right about Philip Nelson than he was about today's Iowa-Minnesota football game. The "great one" said the Gophers would be lucky to keep the Hawkeyes from scoring one hundred points. Great call, Pat!

Philip Nelson will be remembered as the QB that brings the Gophers back to respectibility. Adam Weber could've been that player had he not been coached by Tim Brewster (and had four offensive coordinators in five years in the program). Philip Nelson and Maxx Williams give the U reason for optimism. It was great to witness the U come back and beat Iowa yesterday. Hopefully there are better days ahead.

I generally hate it when we all make too much of what a high school player will do in the Big Ten. It is such a huge step up in the quality of play. Having said that, I wish Philip, Maxx and all our recruits the very best. Go Gophers!!!

it is so fun to watch Barry Alverez completely fool all the Badger fans into thinking they have this national championship contending team throughout September. Then they actually have to play a relevant team on the road. Ha Ha Ha Ha. keep drinking Barry's kool-aid losers.

So what's better? Start a season picked last in the conference or start the season highly ranked, have a couple of great months of publicity, and then have the wheels fall off? Even if the Badgers finish 9-3 or 8-4 that is still better than anything Gopher fans can dream of.

Nice article about Philip Nelson coming in to the U of MN as a highly sought QB. He's coming out of Mankato West, which has a history of very talented teams - good coaching of good players. I hope Nelson, as well as the Gophers succeed and pull that program out of mediocrity.

This is an excellent piece of news for Gopher Nation and its new coach.
