We're in the post-Thank You era. If you were 'no problem' to deal with and you were pleasant to them they may bid you a good night after you give them enough of your candy. To get through the awkwardness you will thank them and immediately hate yourself for it.

I grew up in a small town in southern MN and Halloween was great! All of the elderly ladies in town made home made treats and they were wonderful. You didn't have to worry about any bad things in them. Rosey Allen (bless her soul) always made the BEST popcorn balls. Joyce G. dressed like a witch and we all had to come inside and let her try to guess who we were before she would hand out the good stuff. Those were the days! 8>)
