Great trip down memory lane. I remember watching that season, but nothing too memorable. The old great Vikings team of the 70s was on its last legs. That year, we barely finished above .500, but qualified for the playoffs.

Problem with trakinton... never rbough home the trophy. people are fickle. Maybe if the 4 sb's we would have won.. he might have gotten a different reaction. Cold I know. But sometimes the truth hurts!

Tark was my hero. I snuck into the first ever Vikings game at the Met vs Chicago. My buddy Jimmy Jestus and I climbed over the center field fence during half-time. Great win. By 1978 the team was getting old. We didn't turn over the players like we should have. Not so much Tarkington getting the boos, but the coaching staff itself for letting it happen. Go Pond!!!

Tarkenton is right about one thing, the local fans are stupid. I hardly ever agree with anything else he comes up with though.

Tark was never as bad as McNabb has been for the Vikes. Nice try Pat. How about writing about the real story. How the front office time and time again can't seem to draft what the team needs. That they have been bringing in retreads since the mid 90's.And the fans have had enough of it. How the fans have suffered with loser owners. Max Winters, Mike Lynn, Red McCombs. And that is why they never won a Super Bowl.

Huge difference from the play of Tark to that of McNabb and his short history in purple. Then we look at Tark following his playing days and we get sick to our stomachs. He should have purchased a peanut farm and learned what was needed to become a PR icon. Unfortunately his skills before a TV camera made him look like a fool. Perhaps he never received good coaching from the "entertainment world?" Thankfully today we have people like Terry Bradshaw and Chris Carter that can laugh at themselves and still tell a great story.

Could it be that local fans want to "exterminate" veteran QBs now because we end up getting most of ours on the tail end of their career and they end up washed up? The revolving door of tired out veterans ends here and now, bring on the youthful exuberance!

Tarkington gave the Vikings some great seasons but played too long. Brought the boos on himself by not knowing when to get out. Too bad. McNabb has no history in Minn and has only stunk. He cannot lead a team to victory and the Vikings need a leader. Ponder will sruggle but might have a future in the game. McNabb does not. Go away old man. Enjoy getting a paycheck one more year as a backup and ease into retirement. Please!

The reason that Tarkenton didn't go quietly is....Tarkenton was a selfish, egotistical non-team QB...ask the players who played with him!

Ponder looks like he is actually fun to watch.
