multifired11, I agree, womens basketball gets a lot more press. No offense to them, but they are pretty average compared to the womens' hockey team. Heading into the winter break Coach Frost's team is 17-3 and is still ranked No. 2 in the country.

Wow, I click on Gopher Women's Hockey (after drilling down far enough), and not a single article. Only 3 comments. It's amazing that the Strib gives constant coverage to the big money sports, even manufacturing news when there is no real news, but turns a blind eye and deaf ear to one of the best teams in town. Of course their following is low, compared to the Vikings. Maybe the news has a little to do with that. Pages of Vikings coverage every day, game or no game, and zippo coverage of pure sports teams that are representing Minnesota proudly. Constant hyping of the pro sports teams induces more hype, and maybe sells more papers. But I find it incredibly bland. I'd like to see more stories about real women and men who are playing sports for the love of the game (plus maybe a college scholarship), and representing Minnesota better than a bunch of overpaid jocks.

Gopher women ranked No. 1, and are looking great so far in this young season! Best of luck the rest of the way!

For the 2012-2013 season thus far, the Minnesota Gopher women's hockey team is unbeaten and untied at 16-0-0. Ranked #1 each week since the pre-season poll. Has set NCAA records for consecutive wins...tied NCAA record for consecutive road wins. Has the top two scoring forwards in the nation...the top scoring D in the nation. The best goaltender in the world of women's hockey at any level who has also set team records and is fast closing on NCAA record for total career wins. Not to mention an incredible depth of talented players many of whom are local kids. This team deserves so much more in the way of press coverage and support in the stands. The lack of ink and general media coverage is very disappointing. This is a team of historical significance, talent and success in the sport of hockey in the so called State of Hockey.

I'm with the people who have commented above. The lack of even a place holder article here about the incredible success the women's hockey program is having this year (and last) should be an embarrassment to your paper. Disgusted... is there not a writer on your staff who can find a worthwhile story over at Ridder? Bums.
