On the surface this doesn't seem like good legislation given the recent history of pharmaceutical and DME recalls. Generally I get the feeling from the senator that she is a well meaning person who is hasn't been overly corrupted by washington--so there must be more to the story than what I read in the papers. The FDA has had many problems recently so I'm sure many will rail on this because it seems pretty ripe. I wish the paper could do something like a 3 part series on the FDA--some in-depth coverage tying this legislation in with past problems and why/how this introduced bill should be considered. This is important for Minnesota's Medical equipment industry.

The FDA has long been overly cautious when approving medical devices, especially insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors for diabetics. People waited many months for the first primitive glucose monitor to be approved - when it finally arrived, only then did its limitations become apparent. Europeans presently enjoy new editions of insulin delivery systems for many months before they become available in the U.S. One large manufacturer of insulin pumps announced that a pump-monitor system would be available by November, 2011 - a year later, where is it? Still awaiting FDA approval.

Maybe she should work on the more serious problems in the country. We have plenty of consumer advocates. Klobuchar is extraneous to those. She's avoiding the real issues of fixing the country. Have you ever heard Klobuchar's plan to solve the budget deficit and the national debt? No, of course you haven't. She doesn't have a clue. It's just all about getting elected on issues that in the big picture, matter nothing to the country. She is exactly what's wrong with our politics.

Over 30,000, good paying Med Tech jobs have left the state in the last 2 years while our Senators and Govenor dithered. This looks like "shutting the barn door after the horses are out.". Wish Amy hade gotten in front of this before. Too late now. Medtronic is hiring in China and India, not here.

Just another ploy for amy to get her name in the paper. She and her cohort franken, neither one has an original thought much less a true proposal. If she were on top of this, it would be her bill but no, she is a co sponsor, just jumping on the band wagon and taking credit for someone else's work. Amy Klobuchar has sponsored 122 bills since Jan 4, 2007 of which 106 haven't made it out of committee and 5 were successfully enacted. The five she has passed were all fluff, nothing of any consequence. A link to the complete list of what little she has done. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=412242

Although Klobuchar is not taking on big issues, I for one am happy she is not intent on fixing "big things" . When the Senate and House try to "fix things" , they seem to make it worse. We can blame Bush and blame Obama,, but Congress have blown things for years and is just as responsible for this mess.

Does she have a schedule made up to make sure her name pops up every 3 to 4 months? Yes folks they do have a plan to make sure you see that she is breathing in DC. Franken doesn't even have that going for him. Only hear from him when someone invites the clown to show up. Hello Minnesota!! When is that state ever going to wake up?

At least we have two senators that are actually doing their jobs. Our representatives are another story though. Funny not a single rightie can buck up and say the she is actually doing something their have ben ranting for, changing regulations to promote business. But no, couldn't say anything positive about her, you'd choke.

So, Klobuchar introduces a bill to make government more efficient and increase the opportunities for medical device manufacturers, who employ a large number of highly-paid people in MN and what do we get for comments? Whining about how her name is appearing in the paper. Can't people even get over their partisanship long enough to appreciate something which could help the Minnesota economy and make us more competitive?
