Earth is 4.5 BILLION years old and this reporter is trying to badger this guy into saying Minnesota's climate has changed with 30 years of data, and sketchy data at that. God help us.

Sounds like he's done fine work during his tenure, and automated the routine processes to the point where he's not really needed anymore. His replacement has not been named -- and should not be; this is one state-paid position that can be eliminated.

We've adapted, but animals and plants can't necessarily. So evolution applies only to the human species? Really?

Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch if you pursue the things you love to do? Nice story. Well done Jim. Enjoy!

@tulu "We've adapted, but animals and plants can't necessarily. So evolution applies only to the human species? Really?" Over the time period in question we've adapted (not evolved), over that same span animals and plants haven't had time to evolve, and they can't adapt in the ways that we can. It's pretty simple IF you give it a moments thought.

It's great when someone loves the work they do and get to do it their whole career! Best of luck to this man in retirement. And thanks for serving the state of Minnesota. As a kid, I remember when August was very hot always and we had to sleep down on the porch instead of upstairs. And Christmas always had snow. but that was more than 30 yrs ago!

wunderdude-Seriously, how do you know more about the weather than this Zandlo guy. I believe it when he says there is climate change taking place; certainly he is more informed on the topic than you with just your layman's opinion.

Here comes another double-dipper!!!!!!! Full salary at early retirement, and still able to get a full (or part) time job at another institution or the private sector. Even though it seems like a small step, here is one department of the government that is NOT NECESSARY. We have private sector and federal climatologists up the wazoo. Let smaller government begin here.
