Minnesota basically handed Purdue a 24-point lead in a brutal first quarter, committing all sorts of mistakes in another painful, punishing Saturday.

On paper, I thought we had a chance to win this game. We will be underdogs the rest of the way. Maybe we can win one and that is being optimistic. We need players. I hope there is improvement next year. We don't need another coaching change.

The one constant in all of the turmoil and failure, as well as tens of millions in unnwcwssary payouts and buyouts is Joe Maturi.

The fact there are only 3 posts (now 4) says enough about the state of Gopher football......

The solution is simple. Gopher football should drop out of the Big 10, and go Div. IAA. Then we could play such teams as NDS on a regular basis. The Bank would be packed every week. We could do all our recruiting right her in Minnesota. It would be a win-win for everybody.

It would be nice to at least hear some honesty about the sad tradition that is Gopher football: for starters, the problem is NOT the coach we currently have who was gracious enough to put his reputation on the line for this perennially thankless job. The caliber of athletes currently on the field are significantly overmatched -- sorry to speak so bluntly, but it is what it is! While it is possible to make lemonade with lemons, the analogy does not apply to this collection of athletes. There only remains the vague hope that Coach Kill can sell Gopher football to some kids that are talented enough to play at this level of competition -- not likely, but right now there is nothing more to be said!!!

For those of you trumpeting Northwestern's football program, I have one number for you: 34. That's the length of Northwestern's losing streak between 1979 and 1982, and it's still the longest losing streak in college football history. Northwestern was a bad team for decades, and didn't show signs of life again until Gary Barnett was hired in 1995. Coach Kill may yet be Minnesota's Barnett.

Man, your football team is really awful. If I was a Minnesota high school football coach, I'd encourage my best players to play outside Minnesota.

Fire Maturi and then let the new guy fire Kill. The Gophers are pathetic even by their standards.
