Unlike their Football team, the Gopher hockey team proved they can beat DII opponents.

It was a good win against a team that we should beat. The D played solid. The shots were 16-1 in favor of Gophers until the 3 straight penalties in the 1st. In the 2nd it seemed they relaxed and just played after the 2nd goal. We won't score 9 every game but if they score 4, we'll win a lot of games.

I'm not sure how you can measure this team based upon that opponent. I think we've had a clear measure of how UMD (beating Notre Dame) and BSU (beating Miami of Ohio) look at this point. I think they'd better get some scoring in now, because next weekend will be the real test.

I guess this Gopher team is going to have trouble scoring goals...Obviously it was a team that was terrible last year in a 'lesser' conference. But, this team did what they were supposed to do. Last year, I am sure we'd have beaten SHU, but the score probably would have been 4-2 or something. 3 lines that have some talent and a 4th line that is going to aggitate. They have to come out tonight and win again in solid fashion. But, it appears this Gopher team is primed to do something very good this year.

Polls don't mean anything yet. So, the fact that a team beat someone ranked #1 last night isn't as impressive as it would be if it were done in February. Remember, Miami was ranked #1 last year at this time. The last team to be ranked #1 this early and go on to win the title...Minnesota October 2002 for the 02-03 season. It might mean that ND is overrated. Who knows?

Say whatyou may the Gophers won big, scored lots of good goals and had a shut out. Regardless who your opponent is you have to score goals to win.

WOW..... I think the gophers are going to be a really good team this year. Do you remember the good ole days when the gophers were leaders? This win will really help with the pairwise later in the year! Ahhhhhhhhh

@siouxchamp-- You had to stay up pretty late last night to see your squad eek one out against a mighty AHA foe. I kept dozing off during the Gopher rout but was awakened every few minutes by LaPanta's "score" call. I'm guessing that if Mr Nelson wouldn't have bagged those 2 late one's, you'd be absent from this site today..

Jabs so early in the season? C'mon. As happy as I am to see a big win, it means nothing if we come out tonight and lose or tap in an empty netter to win 4-2. Show me that you can dominate back to back! That being said, something is feeling a little different about this Gopher team compared to the last few years. By the way, nice to have Guentzel back on the bench.
