Maybe next she'll do something about the idiocy of needing a passport to visit Canada and then take on the massive waste that is the TSA. One can hope.

I totally agree. Not only does it take long, but it's expensive too. It's so easy for us to travel to many places without visas, but that may change. Some countries are doing tit-for-tat and require visas, such as Brazil, and others are imposing visa-equivalant fees, such as Argentina at $140 per year. (where their citizens still require visas to enter US).

The rules are one thing but part of the problem is that consular officers aren't the most pleasant folks to deal with and frequently are culled from other "cones" at State because there aren't enough people interested in consular service. So you get people who thought they'd be doing "serious" work only to find that they are clerks and they tend not to be terribly empathetic.
