Minneapolis, Hennepin County to share $6.8 million from HUD.
Are we going to sent all of the lead painted toys back to China ?
Republicans will no doubt be outraged by this waste of taxpayer money. They will fight to the death to preserve the right of their children to eat lead paint! Or at least the right of poor children to eat lead paint.
Are you kidding me, Lead Paint... Must the taxpayer continue to pay for the things that PEOPLE can't do. Fix your OWN stairs and scrap the old paint off and repaint your OWN windows. Plus, Lead paint was strong about 15-20 years ago. More money down the drain. HELP YOUR SELF PEOPLE!
Lead paint removal should be paid for by the owners of the properties. More borrowed and wasted money. Get off of your lead ass and take care of it yourself!!!!!!
It's been well over 25 years, maybe even 35 years since lead paint was identified as an issue. How much longer must we continue to remediate?
When my oldest was a baby, they were talking about lead paint, and being sure that peeling paint was scrapped and repainted. He's now 25. We never had a problem with any of our kids eating, mouthing, or putting the house's painted surfaces in their mouths.
Is this a real problem? Or just a theoritical problem?
Wow docbarry, they are making you look like freaking Nostradamus
if your kid is eating lead paint then you are a crappy parent. its really not that hard to watch your kids, especially when they are at the age that they might be eating paint.
More reasons to abolish lots of federal control and the waste that flows from it.
Many European nations banned or limited the use of lead-based paints shortly after World War I, but the US chose not to do so until the late 1970's. As a result, we have a large housing stock with lead paint which still poses a hidden hazard to our children. Some toddlers may ingest paint chips, but the greater hazard stems from lead dust which can be inhaled, passed through the skin, or be ingested unknowingly with hand-to-mouth contact. That a child gets lead poisoning has little to do with parenting, and often occurs in rental properties where the landlord, not the tenant, has the obligation to undertake the significant cost of lead abatement.
It's time to abolish HUD.
