That would be a nice start. However, among the top five cancers that kill, only breast cancer makes the list, and it's No. 3. Lung and colon are at the top, and after breast it's pancreatic and prostate.

To BallFour: Not sure what your point is with your comment. It sounds critical and maybe that's not how you meant to come across. Hopefully - this is the beginning of a break through with this horrible disease.

The Mayo Clinic and its doctors and researchers are amongst the best in the world. It truly is an amazing place and we are lucky to have it in our state.

They picked antigens that they discovered were highly specific to two cancer types: breast and ovarian. If you pick the wrong antigen to develop a vaccine against, it would have dangerous, unintended consequences. In the prostate example, PSA is well-known but the problem is it doesn't strongly correlate to cancer enough to justify developing an antibody to PSA. From a personalized medicine standpoint, not all tumors are the same genotypically, even when they originate from the same region of the body. One has to mine the data for the genes that are most likely to be expressed specifically in cancer lines and most frequently, and depending on available sample sizes it isn't always obvious. For Mayo, it's kind of nice to have money from the hospital available to fund research, rather than to depend on the next NIH funding cycle (if any).

THE FALLACIOUS PANACEA - Time and again anti-cancer vaccines have not lived up to their hype. Not only do they often not lower the risk of cancer, they frequently trigger other forms of cancer, blood clots, strokes, and other maladies. The Mayo Clinic should use its considerable resources to bring more attention to the dangers of excess sugar consumption (which fuels cancer), actively pursue methods to lower exposure to toxic food additives (which triggers cancer), and push the consumption of whole raw foods (which build healthy intestinal microflora). As many physicians at the Mayo Clinic already know only too well, proper nutrition is the real foundation of cancer prevention.

Cancer patients should be allowed the use of marijuana. While I understand this is about a vaccine, THC is the only thing proven to kill some deadly cells. I personally know one woman who has lived ten years past her Dr's expiration date...Marijuana saved her life

@callmebetty@ Apricot seeds? Interesting. I will have to research that. Does it prevent them from coming back as well. I like to research the natural vs chemical. I will alway be an advocate of medical marijuana. It also prevents the cells from returning. I wish that we would rely more on the natural than the chemical. I have had many loved ones with cancer and it is so sad to see what Chemo can do to a person

yes mnmaggiemn, appricot seeds work great actually. it the common arguemnt and why "science" denies it as a treatment of any kind is because they contain cynide. BUT. the for thoseo fo use not great at chemistry, cynide is just tangled up protein strands and thats why its poision they body cannot use the protien because its all tangled and messed up. BUT the cynide in the appricot seeds is NOT tangled as 100% safe to ingest thou the taste is bitter i admit but taste is a small price to pay for health.
