Rybak: Calling for $30.5M isn't opposing new stadium

Minneapolis mayor says the city supports Arden Hills as the Vikings' new home but wants compensation for its long investment in the Dome.

OK, Minneapolis invested money into the Metrodome, but didnt they also directly benefit from the Metrodome the most? All the money they invested should have long been returned by revenues generated from the dome. This seems like double dipping.

I understand the competition between cities, but it sure gets tiring sometimes. The Twin Cities are one big metro area--we all benefit. Just get the stadium done. Bloomington had the Vikings from 1961 to 1981, Minneapolis since 1982 and maybe Ramsey County after that. Hey Rybak, for the average fan, it doesn't matter! Just get it done!

"dollars generated by people in this city" Hey RT! You do realize that most of the Vikings Fan base come from OUTSIDE the city. You have zero credibility. Go back to your green roof and stay out of the way.

Any politician who votes to put one nickel of taxpayer money to make a billionaire owner even richer needs to at the very least be voted out of office or recalled. With the state in arrears, the global market tanking we have more pressing problems to solve.

If the state and local municipalities are investing 600M+, wouldn't it make more sense to build it somewhere where everyone could use it and benefit from it? That doesn't seem to be Arden Hills. Even if they build a stadium out there, it's not going to turn that area into prime real estate. I don't know of many people that'd choose to live near a stadium, and there's an over abundance of commercial real estate as it is.

I hate to say it, but if Minneapolis paid for the thing and the Vikings leave it, it is then left up to Minneapolis to do whatever they want with it... Right? But if the State paid for it, then that would be different... Too bad the Vikings aren't owned by public stock like the Packers, can you imagine the Packer shareholders threatening to leave the state? lol... Nobody really gets it...

I've been waiting for the total to exceed 1 billion for years. I knew it would happen before anything was done. And now I see it's quickly to 1.1 billion. It's getting absolutely ridiculous.

As I've said before, perhaps the city will want to just keep the Metrodome open and operating. Then we'd have a venue available for the new MFL team in town (Municipal Football League). The teams in this league would be owned by the local municipality similar to the Green Bay team. Team stock could be sold and the league could never threaten to leave if they don't get a new stadium. No more BLACKMAIL! Anybody else ready to jump on this bandwagon???
