REVIEW: "Moneyball" reinvents the sports movie in a true-life tale that's less about baseball and more about mavericks defying the status quo.

2002? So the Twins beat 'em? Do they mention the roiders Giambi and Tejada?

Sounds to me like a movie that the "formerly" small market payroll Twins should have seen for a reference point a couple of years ago!? But with the reality of the M & M fiasco now unfolding daily here in Twinsville, there should now at least be a sequel film featuring Mauer, Morneau, Nishioka (and translator) Troy Palomalu, and a guest appearance by Jim Thome and Delmon Young. Hint: if you think you can spend your way to titles like the Yankees and Red Sox, then you must spend a whole lot more money and spend it a whole lot more wisely!

Sports movies are always great metaphors for life. I was interested in this one until I saw Ceymore Hofman in it, that guy is an awful actor, can’t imagine him as a very good sports character. Plus I didn’t care that much for Pitt diss-ing marriage this week either. Two thumbs down.

You can dismiss the A's not winning a World Series but you can't deny that Beane along with Bill James changed the way baseball scouts. Once the Red Sox, Yankees, and other big money teams began to adopt the ideas in Moneyball they made it that much harder for the A's to have the edge they previously had only for themselves.

mothernjugs: Phillip Seymore Hoffman is probably one of the best actors to come along in the last 15 years or so. If he's not your cup of tea, so be it. That doesn't make him a bad actor though.

Two thumbs up! I saw this movie and it was very entertaining with lots of laughs. Everyone in the audience except for 2 people were glued to their seats and the theater was packed. I don't see how some can comment about a movie they have not seen. I would recommend seeing...very good

bredpath: Phillip Seymore Hoffman is horrible in this movie. Pitt and Hill are very natural actors. Hoffman is always "acting" in this film, as if he's onstage in a theater, not film acting. I was rooting for him but he is trying so hard to be this grizzled old veteran manager and it is just embarrassing next to the other performances. He has been good in other films but is dreadfully bad in this one. Jujst not my cup of tea either, huh?!

I was at a premiere showing of it last night and for all of us baseball fans this movie was phenomenal! Brad Pitt was excellent in this film,as was Jonah Hill. I strongly suggest that Moneyball is one of the best baseball films ever made! It's more about what happens off the field rather than on it! It also shows how small market teams like the Twins can stand up and win against big market teams like Yankees, if they truly put their heart and soul into playing the game and winning. There is no I in team, and when a team figures that out, the more successful they will become!

OK, fire4752, I'll bite. What was the deal with the two people not glued to their seats?

re: baldwinscott. Did you not state that he's been good in other performances? One bad job doesn't make him a bad actor. My original post was in response to mothernjugs statement that Hoffman is generally a horrible actor. But thanks for backing up my point even when you seem to have an issue with it.
