Ex-Gopher Angell has bad memories from Russian travel

Nick Angell played in the KHL last year and played with two of the 43 players killed. Asked if he always felt safe flying in Russia, he said: "Absolutely not."

Lufthansa has safe planes, They are mostly Airbus. Delta has good maintenance, but will soon outsource most work to mexico???

The plane he refers to is a TU-134 - code name "Crusty" by Nato. It was designed in 1963 and build from 1967 - 1984. They are banned from EU airspace due to emission and noise issues. The glass nose was on early models and was a carry over from the bombers that Tu built - the navigator sat in the noise - so he could see landmarks.

Wow, did a quick wikipedia read on those planes that Angell was on. They are from the SIXTIES! And even the President of Russia said they all have to be retired by 2012. Most of them are in MUSEUMS!
