Sad article. RIP Boogy. Hang in there Ryan. You did the best you could under tough circumstances.

Damn sad stuff. Heavens bless you Derek, and all touched by your story. You are missed. Andy, Mike, Aaron, Ryan, and everyone close to him, take care and keep fighting brothers.

I am... skeptical the NHL will really do something, and I'm editing my comment to avoid sounding cynical. The NHL is ultimately an entertainment business and it's us, the spectators who spend the money that keeps it running, who need to change our views and tastes. Are we ready for that? Are we ready to shut the door on the face of people like Boogaard and Rypien, because we won't like to see that role on the ice anymore? I just don't think so...

Everybody knows I didn't think Boogie had any NHL skills. As a person the Boogieman was a great. My question is a cop finds him a sleep in his car on the side of the road and gives him a ride home. Shouldn't the cop be suspended for not doing his job? Shouldn't he have gave him a DUI? I know two people who got DUI's for sleeping in the backseat of their cars because they knew couldn't they couldn't drive. Both were in parking lots. I just wonder if they the cop had done his job and taken Boogie to jail things might be different. Maybe the cops at detox would've got Derek help. Knowbody will ever know.

On April 2, 2005, Pope John Paul II died. On May 13, 2011, Derek Boogaard died. Any questions?

They need to leave Aaron out of this, he did nothing wrong. It's digusting they're trying to prosecute him after everything he's been through. He lost his big brother for God's sake, isn't that enough?!?

Oxycodone is poison. Its quite the drug and gives quite the effect. Way too addicting and coming down off of it is terrible. Anyone using this stuff, but very, very careful. Quit it as soon as possible.

I wonder if this is not a consequence of the culture that in sports you have to be super "tough" you have to play hurt at any cost. Well, you tell this message to a young kid since he is playing in high school, the kid gets access to these pills somehow, and this is what happens.

@ elduderino I agree with you. Last week I told of my expierence with OXY. I still think it should really be banned. Do we really need to be that doped up? Anybody who had surgery, was in pain before the procedure. So after surgery I think a person could handle a pain killer that just takes the edge off not make you go to sleep and slow your breathing!
