Claeys is full of surprises. I believe he's one of few defensive coordinators to knock USC out of the AP Top 25.

I can't believe more teams aren't using guys for special situations on both sides of the ball. Many of these guys played 2 ways in high school. If they weren't their coaches were fools to not use their best athletes to their advantage. Belicheck has been doing this for years in the NFL. Good call MN coaches.

This is a good example of why a successful small college coach fits well here. The U doesn't have accomplished players at every position like an Ohio State, so the coaches need to be creative and do things to get their best athletes on the field. I love it!

I like Kill, I like his assistants, I think the Gophers are improving and may surprise some people. Nevertheless, these gimmicks seem kinda bush-league to me.

Gimmicks? Did you see the play described in this article. You put in one of your fastest burst players at 6'2, 225 pounds, and it shouldn't surprise you that he was on the USC QB in a flash and disrupted a screen pass. Nothing gimmicky about using speed in a speed rush situation. This is just common sense and should be used at all levels of football.

Great job coaching all around from the stand point of trying to use your best players in match up type scenarios. I love the idea of Gray catching passes again it's his only shot if he wants to play at the next level anyways and Shortell has already out played him and won over the coaches with his composer and readiness with the offense. Keep up the good work coach Kill and staff.
