It wasn't a ringing endorsement or a commitment beyond this week, but coach Leslie Frazier said rookie Christian Ponder will be the No. 2 quarterback when the Vikings open the season in San Diego on Sunday.

Oh Gezz here we go again. Like Childress in love with TJ. Frazier is in love with Ponder so he gets #2 spot at QB. WEBB SHOULD BE YOUR STARTING QB RIGHT NOW AHEAD OF MCNABB ... Vikes bring in McNabb to sell tickets and help get a new stadium. We should of started to rebuild ON WEBB, THIS YEAR not on the back of some used up Quarterback. WEBB is the VIKING QB of the future not Ponder....

I can honestly say that I've never been real excited about some player being the number 2 guy and I'm still not regarding Christian Ponder. I am however excited about someone actually being number 3 on the depth chart with Webb there. This could really help make up for what I see as a below average group of wide receivers. It's great that the NFL allows the 3rd QB to play a more flexable role but it's also probable that that's why Webb was put at #3. Oh well, I'd rather see Webb out there playing then carrying a clip board.

With Ponder being named #2 QB,weneed to use Joe at least 4 or 5 times in the wildcat a game. He is far to good of an athletic to not use somehow! And all of you people lay off McNABB,he still has some gas left in the tank.

Who cares, just another year of heartache for Viking fans...

Ponder makes sense at #2 if you are grooming a QB to take over the team in a year. He gets second team reps in the offense at #2 vs. the 3rd QB getting reps with the scout team playing opposing QB. Webb has skill that need to be and will be out on the field in many games this year at #3. If McNabb goes down, there is nothing that will say Ponder will be in there..Webb may very well take over for awhile just because of his big play making abilities...I mean last year he beat Philly and didn't play at all withing the offense...just did it with his legs...it's great for surprise play, but not for long term stability at that position.

I think we should have an exciting rebuilding year, with Frazier it appears there is some logical thought process happening. He seems highly interested in not letting talent like Webb has go to waste and I like the position competition he's brought, along with the youth movement. We'll be 6-10 or 9-7ish, but young with more draft picks and talent to build on. Hope the Wilf's give Frazier 1/2 the time they gave the idiot........I think Leslie will come through....Not sure our personnel guy is the Man, but there is talent on this team.

If San Diego plays up to expectation and can put up some points early, maybe the Vikes could throw Ponder in late in the 3rd QTR. San Diego has a very good offense and with the Vikes not being able to pressure the QB or cover any wideouts the Chargers could score often and early. If they do that they should put Ponder in the game and see what he can do against the 1st stringers in a real game situation. Of course maybe the Vikes D will surprise me and be a whole lot better than I think they will be.

the obsession with joe webb is fascinating on these boards. this guy will never be a starting qb in the nfl, period. he averaged 90 whopping yards a game passing last year, with an impressive rating of 60.9. in addition, ponder had a better qb rating this pre-season, and he's still learning. and for those who say ponder runs to much, what do you think webb has done this far? ponder is the guy, maybe webb can walk on behind t-jack in seattle.

Ponder is exactly where he needs to be, number 2.McNabb hopefully will surprise some folks, especially since I have him as backup in fantasy.

If Ponder at #2 means more opportunity to use Webb on the field, in more games, why would anyone argue with that? They drafted Ponder in order to develop a QB for the future. Webb was originally drafted as WR. It is nice to know that both will get better, with time. GO VIKINGS!!!
