The freshman's poise after replacing MarQueis Gray leaves open the option of having Gray play some at WR.

Sounds like Coach Kill has some well needed enthusiasm and fire in him, I wish him and the Gophers well, and much success. Perhaps he could talk to Gardy and Mauer and get them to show a pulse.

Have to hand it to Coach Kill. He says all the right things.

I thought Shortell looked surprisingly poised as a Freshman stepping in on a big stage. He could prove to be the true starter at QB which would certainly create more options with Gray. I think Kill's taking this team places!

I would have been impressed with a redshirt Jr backup QB playing like Shortell did coming in to replace an injured starter at USC down 9 in the second half. His performance was flat out impressive for anyone. I kept saying to myself, "This dude's only a true freshman? Are you kidding me?" There are no guarantees in college football, but if he continues to progress, the future is certainly very bright for the Gophers. That being said, Gray did look MUCH better in the 2nd half, did not play himself out of the starters role IMO.

I would think Gray would welcome a return to receiver because I don't see him drafted as a quarterback.

It looked like Shortell was actually having fun..Most of the time it was hard for him to keep his mouth piece in because of the huge grin on his face...

Coach Kill and Coach Frazier, wow. What a great time for Minnesota football. Both are classy guys. Fans from each team can be proud.

Hopefully this will continue, but remember Sid, they've only played one game.
