Patrick Reusse: Talent is there for Purple, just not enough

The roster has turned over considerably since the NFC title game loss, but the Vikings' biggest problem in 2011 is the division they play in.

Good article Patrick! I like the moves Frazier is making. I think this team is better than the team that went to the NFC championship game. It's all up to McNabb.

Reusse is right about the defensive secondary. Rivers will light up the Vikings in SD and any median hype up till then will be tempered with reality. Vikings 5-11 if they are lucky. More likely 4-12. Give Frazier a contract extension if they finish 6-10. No pass rush, no passing attack and the awful secondary. This is going to be a long season.

This just in! Aaron Rodgers CUT... I know, I can't believe it... he CUT off that stupid excuse for a 70's mustache. Maybe he didn't... I don't know and better yet, I don't care. Just trying to get purplegoo and snackpie a little nervous. Who would ever guess that Jared shaves and Aaron grows that thing. He must plan on being a lumberjack someday. As far as football goes, any fans knows our OL is hurting, but if Johnson can come in and play steady in place of Chub McKinnie, with McNabb's quicker release and non-Favre mobility, he'll stay healthy and Musgrave will be bangin' his head against the wall trying to figure out ways to get Webb the ball. That would be a good problem. Ponder better get comfortable watching McNabb work because if all goes right, he won't step on the field this year. As usual, our D backfield is suspect and I think our concern for Special Teams went up a few notches with the latest cuts. The most unsettling position for me is Receiver. Even though the TE position is locked and loaded, without that downfield toss, we'll struggle. The biggest play of the preseason was McNabb showing he can throw the long ball spot on. All things considered, at this point, I like our chances. Let's roll and SKOL! Take that, snack pack.

The expectations for the 2011/12 season could not be any lower. The strengths of the team cannot make up for the multitude of weaknesses. At least the coaching staff is more likeable.

"I think this team is better than the team that went to the NFC championship game. It's all up to McNabb." I don't even know what to say about this statement.

AP looks focused and the adjustments the Vikes have put in with their run blocking schemes are designed to get him to level 2 quicker - watch out! I too think the NFC North looks really stacked but the Vikes might be just enough of an unknown to surprise their division rivals. To me CB and safety are the biggest concerns, especially if they can't generate a pass rush. They really need Jared Allen to come through this year. I also like the choices they have on O-line. Olsen and Brown were never talked about but I really think they can play, and just give Fusco some time to really get comfortable he will be a staple for years to come.

There is good and bad within the team, but at least the fans haven't resorted to putting mouse trap bait on their heads and looking like clowns.

sorry but this is a better team then a year ago. Pack finishes 4th bears third and vikes take the division at 11-4.

Does better coaching help? This team has MUCH better coaching than last year. Better coaching means using your players better, and it also means better judgements about who your players should be. Frasier and Co. are putting together a very well-stocked, well-coached team. 10 and 6 is quite possible.

Talent begins in the front office down to the head coach and currently there is ZERO talent in every aspect of this franchise. Zygi continues to refuse to hire a qualified general manager and instead has his brother Mark ( The Wimp) Wilf as team president even though he knows nothing about professional footbal whatsoever and beneath him is rick Speilman who has riuned ruined every team he has ever been employed by. Frazier was turned down by four other teams when interviewing for a head coach position, he was unable to even maintain the viking's defense that Mike Tomlin built and was eventually hired to replace Colonel Klink full-time because he came cheap. This franchise stinks from the top down and it is of little wonder why this jinxed franchise has NOT won a Super Bowl / World Championship in it's entire 51 years of existance and why they are 50+ years away from even being able to contend for one. The day Zygi and his brother stops running this team like it is their own personal "fantasy football" team and hire a qualified general manager they will never be able to even contend for a NFC North Division title.
