Coaach Kill is a breath of fresh air. What is confusing is that are so few like him anymore. Where have all the good coaches gone or is the pressure of winning at all costs keeping the honest ones away.

I've been following the Gophers since they were the only game in town. My aspirations for the Gophers left with Lou Holtz. I welcome Jerry Kill and his staff, not with the expectations of a championship, but with the hopes of an entertaining football season. Let's face it, NCAA football is as commercial as the NFL and the NCAA top 25 is just the minor league, no matter who wins the national title. The success of UMD, Bethel, St Johns, St Thomas and others means that Minnesota does have good football prospects. The recruiters were recruiting elsewhere.

Gophers 38, USC 34... Coach Kill at postgame interview: "My kids and my coaches had 'want to', what can I say..." Indeed, he is a breath of fresh air.

I hope the U is successful. But it's only a game, football, and it would be great if more of this kind of focus and enthusiasm were directed towards education and other things that help develop kids--this is NOT to say that coach Kill will let his players slide academically--he won't: after all, the U will win more games if they are eligible.

At least the columnists are talking football without all the disparaging remarks. Small steps....

A very spot on column. The last point is my pet observation. Outside EP, Wayzata and CDH; this state does not produce enough quality D1 football players. Basketball, hockey and wrestling do...football does not. If Coach Kill can improve Minnesota Ho=igh School footbal--we have a chance.
