It was a grand year in the MIAC in 2010, when the Royals and St. Thomas went deep into the Division III football playoffs.

As a lifelong St. John's fan, it is tough to admit, but I have more respect for Bethel's football program than any school in the MIAC. You will never hear profanities or trash talking among the players or their fans. They truly run a class program and exemplify what good sportsmanship is all about. If you want to see great football this fall, check out Bethel, St. Thomas or St. Johns. Three great programs with first class student athletes.

Hopefully the Johnnies can get back to dominating the conference that they built.

The greatest football game I've seen was in the snow a few years back at Saint Johns. The Johnnies were hosting Bethel. Both teams were undefeated. The place was packed, the game went down to the last play with the Johnnies winning. As a Bethel guy, I enjoyed friendly banter with the rival fans. It was all in fun and exemplified the best in D-3 athletics. It's good for the league to have several great teams. Should be fun again this year!

I echo the above Johnnie-- as a Johnnie myself, I have nothing but respect for Bethel and the program that Steve Johnson has built in Arden Hills-- very classy program, and Coach Johnson is one of the most down-to-earth coaches you will ever meet- he takes very seriously his role as a teacher and does it very well. To everyone else, watching MIAC football is a fantastic way to spend fall Saturdays! Good luck to the Royals this year (except against the Johnnies)!

As a former player, let me just say that Coach Johnson is a class act. He is the same behind closed doors as he is in public: a high character individual with a quick wit and a contagious passion for God, life, and football. Here's to the Royals (or at least someone from the MIAC) taking out the "should-be-in-a-higher-division" Mount Union and bringing the DIII championship back to MN where it belongs.

As a Bethel alum, and a past football dad, the respect that Coach J and the football program have, has been earned. Coach J has created a great program, players and young men. Stick around after a game and listen to Coach J's talk to the players; especially after a loss.

Best T-shirt I ever saw. A Tommie student wearing it. FRONT: "Sex Kills!" BACK: "Go to St. Johns and live forever" Great conference, great rivalries.

Nice story. I love the MIAC. Just one complaint, and I know it will fall on deaf ears, but Patrick, it has now been 3! years since the former division known as "1-AA" was changed to "FCS". So if St. Thomas brought in a lot of kids recruited by 1-AA schools, they must only have one year of eligibility left.
