2Day's 2 Cents: Mauer guilty of bad timing

The catcher is suffering through a tough season after signing a $184 million deal, and those cheery ads he appears in seemingly every 20 minutes just makes things worse.

We also saw a booth at the State Fair yesterday, offering prizes for the answers to Joe Mauer trivia. Not sure who was sponsoring, but the two girls running the show appeared to be mighty lonely.

Kemps, Anytime fitness, head and shoulders, gatorade. Jesus, what is this guy not in? Oh yeah, the Twins lineup. Puke.

Is there no one...a coach, a friend, a relative, a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker... that could give him a clue as how he is viewed? Does he really not know? Is he so insulated that he honestly thinks the public perception of him has not changed? I actually feel sorry for him for all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Joe together again.

It's nobody's fault? Ah, yes, the Twins way. No accountability if you're in the in crowd. From the FO to the guys in the dugout to the trainer. None of it is anybody's fault.

Not everyone is a Mauer detractor. I certainly don't blame Joe Mauer for signing the big contract or for training the way he did after the surgery. He sincerely took the approach he felt would be best, trying to ease into condition rather than burning himself out as he felt he did in the previous off season. However, bad things sometimes happen to good people. I know that when healthy he has been the finest catcher I've every seen, and that, not being a mind reader, I have no way of knowing the true extent of his health and heart. I'm not a detractor; I'm a supporter and wish him the best in recovering his health and effectiveness. I sincerely hope he can put the problems behind him and have a productive future as a Twin. As a former catcher myself, I'm 100% in Joe's corner.

How can someone who has been in the public spotlight as long as Mauer, be as terrible as he is a public relations?? Or be as lousy as he is at developing a relationship with his fans or community(were you at the last Mauer charity event? No, cause there wasn't one) Every time the guy opens his mouth he sounds like a whining baby and babbling idiot. Get him some help!

A Mauer fact: A fan is 10 times more likely to get hurt wearing a Mauer jersey than a Cuddyer jersey. Personally, I think that is rated very low. Try it! Get rid of your Mauer jersey and put on a Cuddyer jersey. You'll even feel better right away.

You pay someone $23 million a year, you should expect something out of them. Like, maybe, they prepare to do their (6 month out of the year) job, not tape commercials. Everyone looks bad here: General Soreness, the Twinks, advertisers. UGH!

You almost have to feel sorry for Mauer....he HAS to be reading some of these blogs.....wonder what the heck he is thinking about all of this....or just laughing all the way to the bank?
