It would be interesting to see how many of the newly enrolled are of hispanic descent. I don't mean as a negative comment either but I remember a few years ago riding the bus in south mpls I would always see quite a few hispanic moms with at least 2 or 3 preschool age kids in tow. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if most of this surge is due to the immigration boom.

It is incorrect to say that all schools on the north side of Minneapolis are not seeing larger class sizes. In at least one north side school the class sizes are toping out at 30-34 students in almost every grade level. Higher class sizes impact students from all neighborhoods and place even more demands on schools and teachers who are striving to provide quality educational experiences, safe environments, close the achievement gap and pass mandated, standardized NCLB tests. Minneapolis Public Schools needs to consider the needs of ALL of it's students and solve the over crowding issues across the district. (And really, does it matter who the kids are? They all have the right to a quality public education.)
