I remember the original "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" from my childhood and I still get creeped out. "Sally, we want you, we want you". Scary little creatures and whispering. Not sure why the article/reviewer doesn't mention this is a remake of that film and title.

I really wish they would stop making films like this which do affect young minds. Just like I wish they would stop making filthy rap songs or rap songs that glorify gang banging mentality.

But Tuy1929 isn't that the point of having the age ratings on movies and the explicit lyrics warning on CD's?

I hope it is scary, really scary. I hope they never stop making scary movies. If you don't like it, don't go to see it. If you don't like the music, maybe you should rent yourself a little room, lock up the windows, and sit and listen to Rush all day. Now that is scary! Even too scary for me!

When this film first came out in 1973, it scared the bejeezus out of me (don't know how I managed to see it without my parents knowing, but oh, well). This sounds pretty much like the original, so I'm hoping it's just as good.

POSTED by Tuy1929 Aug. 26, 11 2:32 PM I really wish they would stop making films like this which do affect young minds. "Rating: R for violence and terror." It isn't made for young minds. Maybe I, as an ADULT, would like to go see movies like this. I don't want something to be stopped being made just because I don't like something.

Tuy1929...Your joking aren't you? If not then I suggest you go back to watching reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show or plan a trip to Mayberry. Young minds are not supposed to see R rated films unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. As for Mr. Covert expressing that this is too scary, is one of the most idiotic comments from a "reviewer" that I've ever read. Most scary movies do not live up to the hype or are filled with terrible exposition and gratuitous sex and violence to make up for the lack of layers in a well constructed screenplay. I for one am happy for the return of true horror cinema and hope the trends continue, with real creative writers/directors, like we had during the greatest decade of cinema ever, the '70's.

Scary movies are fine, but I wish the commercials were not so scary. I could be watching the news and the freakiest movie trailer suddenly comes on. I don't want to have my young one having nightmares over stuff like that... not that the news isn't scary but at least they aren't screaming with terror while being drug into darkness.

Although I somehow missed it, if you saw the original version w/o parental permission, it would be because it was a TV movie. For myself, the Karen Black TV movie "Trilogy of Terror" is etched in memory because of the segment people always call "The Voodoo Doll" even though I guess it's title is actually "Amelia" (meh). A woman is terrorized in her apartment by a Zuni fetish doll come to life. THAT was scary. I will never forget the ending but I won't reveal it here.
