Great column about a great player. I am hoping for a first year of eligibility shoo in vote for the Hall of Fame.

Great article Jim! Cuddyer back to being the comedian/clown, comparing himself to Lou Gehrig..

"Fewer men have hit 600 home runs in the big leagues than have walked on the moon." BALLFOUR: And more people can name the 8 who hit 600 than can name 8 of the 12 who walked on the moon. As Norm McDonald has asked, what must Harrison Schmitt do to be famous?

"When a Twins player hits a "walk-off'' homer, even against the Royals in April, they are mobbed and chased, pummeled by fists and then the ubiquitous shaving-cream pie." BALLFOUR: Danny Valencia, take note the next time you hit a game-winning two hopper to the left of second.

Yesterday on Mike&Mike on ESPN they tried to imply that Derek Jeter's 3000th hit was a bigger story than Jim Thome's 600 homeruns;NO WAY.Thome should be an automatic Hall of Fame selection too.Being a DH for part of his career has nothing to do with it.

tradecuddyer.. As Jim Clearly stated, it was Thome who asked the question about Ruth and Gehrig, not Cuddy. Its obvious Thome was referring to the history of, and his deep respect for the game. When are you going to put that worn out "Beat On Cuddy Drum" away?? This article is about a great Ball Player who did it Clean and Did it Great, Jim Thome. There are only 5 who hit 600. The other two are frauds.

"Thome isn't from the old school. He's from the school they torn down to build the old school." That is just great writing Jim. Very clever. So clever that it makes me think that a sportswriter could not make it up and you stole it from someplace else. Anyway, great column.
