Tanner Vavra can no longer see out of his right eye, but the son of the Twins hitting coach has pushed himself to baseball success.

Another great story by Pat Reusse and another reminder that the athletes/coaches we praise and berate are people too, dealing with their own hardships.

Very soft journalism and of course the sheep eat it up! Nothing against the kid I wish him nothing but the best, but I want to read about things that are relevant in the current pro sporting arena not some feel good tripe like this! Bottom line human interest stories have no business in the sports page nor on TV stations that broadcast sports and sporting news 24/7. Oh and I hate the hitting approach his dad teaches.

Joe should stick to fly fishing. If you can't get 2 former #1 draft picks (Delmon and Mauer) 2 former MVPs (Morneau and Mauer) and a future HOF (Thome) and a Japanese Batting Champ (Nishioka) to hit better than .270, then you shouldn't be a big league batting coach. What's Tony O doing these days? Rod Carew anyone?
