Much more interesting than Pawlenty or Bachman.

I went to Berlin this Spring and visited all the buildings in Museumsinsel. Three days later,I still hadn't seen everything and I was overflowing with love for this city and its strong focus on art. BTW, the Nefertiti bust looks better in pictures than in person; the dim spotlights and large roped-off perimeter make it impossible to get up close and personal.

Oh, and regarding the Bode museum, Christy-- you missed out. I was non-plussed about the subject matter, but truth be told, the artistic skill and craftsmanship displayed in the artwork there was amazing. I'd be happy to share some pictures of the amazing works with you if you'd like to see what you missed out on. :) At the very least, seeing the building's architecture would've been worth the jaunt.

I'm a big fan of Berlin. My colleague at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design made an interesting find this spring related to that wonderful city: The painter Robert Koehler, MCAD's second president, has a pretty famous work, _Der Streik_ ("The Strike") from 1886, on display in the Deutsches Historisches Museum near "Museum Island." I had a chance to have my picture taken with the painting this July when I was in Berlin, and I'm hoping to share the image with colleagues this fall as MCAD celebrates its 125th anniversary. . . Great Minneapolis-Berlin connection!
