Nothing would have changed. We still were not going to beat the Lakers or those Pistons. Beating C Webber, Bibby, Divac, B. Jackson and the Kings was a huge step for this franchise. It was the lack of ability of KEEPING talent around Garnett that cost this team so much ( see. Joe Smith Debacle and loss off draft picks and subsequent poor lottery "luck" and worse draft day decisions.) The truth is we have a better core group of young talent than KG ever had when he was starting out with the Wolves. That time was exciting, but let's focus on the new coach and are we even going to see the players lace up and not end up on YouTube for mushing someone at the Rucker!

Having attended every Target Center regular season and playoff game in 2003-2004 and watched the way that the Cassell/KG/Sprewell team played that year--with great contributions from Ervin Johnson, Fred Hoiberg, Trenton Hassell and Troy Hudson--I have no doubt that the Wolves would have defeated the Lakers if Cassell had been healthy. Hell, they took them to 6 games without Cassell! (And without Hudson, who had been a Laker killer that year but also got hurt.) They were starting Derrick Martin at point guard in the Lakers series--Derrick Martin--the perennial end of the bench guy. The Wolves won the regular season series against the Lakers 3 to 1 that year and completely killed them a couple of times. It would have been great to watch a Wolves-Piston final. While I am not as confident that they would have beaten the Pistons as I am that they would have prevailed over the Lakers, I think that with Cassell they had at least a 50/50 chance of bringing home the O'Brien trophy.

Was that a five game series or seven? We were up 3-2 or 2-1 ? We would've won with Sam I Am, no doubt about it!

Not sure we would have won the series even with cassel. If i remember correctly david sterns lackys (nba referees) did everything they could to help the lakers win that series.

Thought for sure the T-Wolves were a team of destiny that season, only to suffer the typical Minnesota sports fan heartbreak. Haven't really watched the NBA since that season...

It's the T-Wolves/NBA so it really doesn't matter. They will not be playing for at least another year anyway because of the greedy players! Ha. I'm glad I don't waste my time watching or caring about the NBA. Go Vikes!

I ask myself this question every season.

Kevin McFail is the reason I don't watch the NBA anymore. He ruined it for me.

Wow, check out that trio of centers in the background. Michael Olowokandi, Ervin Johnson, and Oliver Miller. How did we not win the championship with that rotation of big men guarding Shaq?
