Span needs to stop worrying about what everybody else is saying about him. The Trade rumors have played a major role in his mental status since coming back. I follow @thisisspan on Twitter and he admittedly was caught up in the trade talk. He was upset at the fact the Twins were thinking of trading him. Shoulda woulda could've got some great talent in return for a player this system seems to have many of. Fan Favorite, Yes, but is that more important than the greater good of the team and product on the field. I think not.

"In his Sunday morning radio show on 1500ESPN, Gardenhire said Kevin Slowey would be an option, but not the first option, if the Twins replace one of their starting pitchers. The first option would be Anthony Swarzak, Gardenhire said" WOW what a surpise revalation! Brilliant move to weaken a weak bullpen even more.

Good idea Gardy, thinking of Plouffe at third...Let's take out our second leading rbi guy and replace him with a .200 hitter! WOW!

Span should not be batting lead off, in fact he should be on the bench now more than Revere. That is if one wants to win. But maybe the TWINS are not about winning. Is that the reason for playing Span and other indefensible decisions?

Span was only hittin g .200 at Rochester in his rehab stint, so what would we be able to expect from him back in the majors?

gankmanAug. 8, 1110:37 AM

@mythologer, this is why we should have taken good prospects from Washington and let them deal with Span's recovery.

Bill Smith has a history of getting screwed in trades, including one with Washington, so they figured he'd accept their counter offer of lesser players. I'm glad he did so, but now he may never be able to make the blockbuster deal. Twins may be better off letting some of these free agents walk and build their system through the draft. Power arms and power bats to go with the pitch to contact and speed burners in the system now.

Kevinix, I agree, but first you have to fire the clown in charge, Smith, before making trades AND drafting next year.

ladiesman247Aug. 8, 11 2:58 PM

I think it's good that Span 'tries to do the best he can', but maybe he, amongst others should face reality - they had ONE good year, and should admit that they just suck. I can also try to do the best I can, but I double I'll hit 35 HRs.
