The too-ripe fruit was being thrown away anyway, so how about a food fight at Afton Alps?

Come on, folks. There are starving people to feed.

They were ruined tomatoes that would have been thrown away anyway. It was for a good cause. I wanted to go but did not realize it was so soon!!! Advertise earlier and to the whole state next year! Sounds like a good turnout!! I will surely be there next year!!!

The event was a major bust, the music was a joke and the grain belt beer in cans was about as "low brow" as you can get!!!

I was flipping channels this evening and on 9 there was a show about starving Somalis and on 5 was a story about people using food for entertainment ie tomato fight

The event was lame at best but what was even worse was the lousy Grain Belt beer and the live music. I would say that no more than 1,500 people there at best and half of those got in free!!! Do us a favor and don't bother with a next year!!!

The tomatoes in the photos look 100% edible.

Yeah, this was a pretty sad event. We need to get rid of entitlements. It is pretty sad when people feel entitled to take past date but usable food from those that could use it. Afton Alps has some money in the economy so I am sure they feel justified in this horrible display of excess.

It was the first year, it will not be perfect. It raised money for a good cause. The food would have had to be legally thrown out. Any of you that dont finish a meal and throw it away or litter or waste money that you could be using to send to the starving people you are complaining that the tomatoes could have gone to have no right to complain. Just live the average Joe to have to have a reason to complain

mnmaggiemn, clearly you have no idea how many people "outdated food" feeds everyday. There are many organizations like "Food Not Bombs" that feed the poor and hungry using outdated, but perfectly usable food. Your comment just shows how out of touch you are with those that need assistance.

@mnmaggieemn - It sounds like you had something to do with this ill-concieved event. If so, let me know where I can get a refund because it was not even close to what it was suppose to be!!! The music was horrible and the low end beer being served (Grain Belt) was just as bad!!! Serving real beer like Sierra Nevada, Surly, Bell's or Summit could have made things a bit more tolerable.
