A California judge with more than a little common sense says she won’t let a referendum in San Francisco to ban the circumcision of boys appear on a November ballot.

No-one complained when female circumcision was made illegal, even though some people regard it as their religious right or duty to cut their daughters. It's illegal to cut off a girl's prepuce, or to make any incision on a girl's genitals, even if no tissue is removed. Even a pinprick is banned. Why don't boys get the same protection? Everyone should be able to decide for themselves whether they want parts of their genitals cut off. It's *their* body.

Whoa! You can't tell Liberals that their job is not to tell others what to do and how to live. How else can you have Marxism? That is their true love and final goal and the march continues.

This may be the first thing that I've ever agreed with Keith Ellison on. I just want the Gov't OUT of our PERSONAL decisions.

Liberals will never give up telling people and attempting to legislate what they think is best for everyone. They want government out of our bedrooms but they think this is OK?

Folks folks, stop accusing liberals of this circumcision ban thing. It is not the work of ordinary stereotypical SF liberals. It is the brainchild of individual male activists in that area (I've never heard which party they belong to) who are obsessed, and I mean obsessed, with the fact that they lost some piece of themselves without having any say in the matter. I'm guessing Thanksgiving dinner is a little awkward in their families.

Government has no place in determining the medical or religious practices of free people.... sure murder and a few other things we can not tolerate but let's not water this down. Government needs to stay out of our lives and any idiots in office that push such things need to be booted out.

As dubblea said this is a referendum that was put up to vote by citizens of San Francisco. The government has absolutely nothing to do with this. California has shown that if you give citizens too much power in enacting laws by referendum they will abuse the process.

I think you should just hem it up. Then, when the child is old enough to decide for his self, he can decide to let it back down or not. BTW, I was circumsized 50 years ago, and I don't remember a thing. Whatever pain/trauma I may have suffered is long gone and forgotten.

This whole debate is stupid. I don't believe that anybody really cares that much about foreskin that they can't even remember. This is obviously anti-semetic.

Yet one more of so many issues that should be left to the various states. The Feds have no business intervening in this matter.
