Unarmed ships are attacked and siezed in international waters. Including pleasure vessels. Ransom is demanded. Sounds like piracy to me.

Sorry, I don't have a lot of sympathy if the best way to gain international attention is through kidnapping, ransom and murder.

"Now, too often, American officials bow to what we credulously call the United Nations and other multilateral organizations that have come under the control of powers hostile to what we now generally refrain from calling the Free World." -- like the five permanent members of the security council? What are you getting at? How are American interests under-represented at the U.N.? Because they didn't vote in favor of going into Iraq?

No, Somali pirates do not have a legitimate gripe.

OK so we'll paint "saviors of the sea" on the side of the next torpedo.

Until they get parrots and say "rrrrrrrs", they are just criminals. Often brutal, murderous criminals. Make them walk the plank.

The Canadian reporter says Somalia is not a failed state. I disagree. The problems there and in som many other places in Africa are myriad, systemic and relentless. It is the very definition of failure.

Amazing. Seems like a 'sympathy piece' for Somali pirates. These thugs are brutal terrorists on international waters, who have murdered Americans and gotten away with it, as Obama is too weak to retaliate. This story does not mention that these pirate thugs live in multi-million dollar mansions and drive expensive cars. Many hostages are still being held. Here's what to do: simply arm ALL ships sailing past Somalia with trained security forces and fire upon any armed pirate boats that approach and threaten them. If ANY US ship is ever threatened again, send in Predator drones with missles and blow as many pirate ships out of the water as possible, followed by some missle strikes on their fancy mansions. Have the drones patrol international waters, and if any armed pirate boats sail to sea take them out too. End of problem.

Not many things us Americans agree on, but this could be it. Pirates of any country should be hounded, chased and killed.
